What does it mean when a restaurant site is set to get a new tenant after a fifteen-year run while a bar two blocks away has been open for 75 years? Old Town Scottsdale is putting those two timelines side by side this fall, whether anyone asked it or not.
Between September 18 and November 15, a roughly eight-week stretch, the neighborhood is running two different clocks at once. One measures the months since a longtime tenant closed its doors. The other measures it in decades since a business opened its doors and never left. Both clocks are ticking on the same handful of blocks right now, and the overlap is worth paying attention to if you spend your weeknights and weekends in this part of Scottsdale.
The Corner Getting a New Tenant
Start at 3737 N. Scottsdale Road. According to Hoodline, RnR Gastropub ran there for fifteen years before closing in June 2025. Now a Los Angeles-based sports gastropub called General Admission, founded by brothers Kamran and Kourosh Pourkazemi, is set to move into the same two-story building this fall. The structure dates to 1967 and has been marketed by commercial listings as having the only two-story dining patio overlooking Scottsdale Road, a detail that shows up in old-real-estate paperwork more than in dinner conversation.
General Admission already runs locations in Los Angeles and at the UnCommons development in Las Vegas, and its Las Vegas menu leans toward wings, sushi, smashburgers, steak and seafood in front of a wall of televisions. Whatever opens at 3737 N. Scottsdale Road will be its first Arizona location.
A few blocks away, a different kind of nightlife concept was also on the calendar this fall. Evening Entertainment Group had scheduled Holla Brunch Girl, a 21-and-over rooftop DJ brunch venue, to begin September 26, also in Old Town. Same neighborhood, same general season, two entirely different bets on how people want to spend a Saturday.
The Bar That Didn't Move
September 26 was also the date on the calendar for Rusty Spur Saloon's 75th anniversary celebration, scheduled to run all day, starting with live music at 11 a.m. and continuing into the evening. The saloon opened in 1951 inside a building constructed in 1921 as the Farmer's State Bank of Scottsdale. The old bank vault is still there. It's the walk-in cooler now. The anniversary was set to include 75-cent Coors Banquet beers while supplies lasted and benefit the Phoenix Children's Foundation Hope Fund, according to a rundown of fall dining news.
So on that Saturday, a rooftop brunch concept was scheduled to debut while Rusty Spur Saloon had its 75th anniversary celebration on the calendar, and the former RnR site remained in transition. Old Town's fall calendar held both new concepts and a long-running saloon.
A Few Miles That Make the Same Point
The pattern holds outside Old Town's core, too. Vecina, the Arcadia restaurant known for dishes like carne asada-marinated karaage and salmon tacos with Faroe Island salmon, opened a second, significantly larger location in Scottsdale's McCormick Ranch neighborhood on September 18. The new space has lake views, private dining rooms, a mezzanine and a custom mural by Phoenix artist Tato Caraveo that pays homage to the original Arcadia location. This isn't an outside brand parachuting into Scottsdale. It's a restaurant that built its reputation two neighborhoods over and expanded into a bigger room.
Los Milic, an Arizona wine label, opened a new tasting room this month at 7045 E. Third Ave., another example of an already-established Arizona name adding a second address rather than a first-timer testing the market cold.
Bonner David Galleries, a longtime Old Town gallery, is currently hosting "Flourish," a major solo exhibition by artist Hunt Slonem, running September 10 through October 31 with a reception on October 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. The gallery isn't new. The show is.
The Week Built to Overlap Everything
Arizona Restaurant Week ran September 18 through 27 this year, and Old Town built a full program around it, including an "Inside the Kitchen" series that gave behind-the-scenes looks at ZuZu at Hotel Valley Ho, The Herb Box, Shiso Sushi, Olive & Ivy and Luna by Giada. A companion photo contest, tagged #LocalOldTownFoodie, offered $100 gift cards to winners voted on by the neighborhood itself. The week overlapped Vecina's September 18 opening and Rusty Spur's September 26 anniversary. Those events spanned Old Town and nearby McCormick Ranch, making it a busy stretch for dining out across the two areas.
The Big One in November
The season's clearest anchor comes at Scottsdale Waterfront. Canal Convergence returns November 6 through 15 with this year's theme, Western Nature. The free, ten-night event marks two anniversaries at once: the festival's own 15th year and the City of Scottsdale's 75th. Hours run 6 to 10 p.m. on the opening and closing weekends and 6 to 9 p.m. on weeknights, according to the Scottsdale Arts event page. Past editions have drawn 100,000 to 125,000 visitors over the ten nights, per figures from event contractor Entertainment Solutions Inc.
That turnout matters for a reason beyond foot traffic. Old Town accounts for nearly half of the city's overnight visitors and anchors a visitor economy that generates $3.5 billion in annual economic output and $74 million in city tax revenue, according to Experience Scottsdale data reported by the Fountain Hills Times. The event's civic weight is real enough that in February 2026, the Scottsdale City Council voted 5-2 to attach stricter accountability metrics to Scottsdale Arts' $6.3 million annual operating agreement with the city, even as the festival's economic case remained strong. None of that changes what a Tuesday night walk along the canal looks like, but it puts the event's civic and economic significance in context.
Parking spreads across the Galleria Garage, the Fifth Avenue Garage, the Scottsdale Waterfront underground garage and the Craftsman North lot, all within walking distance of the installations.
